University Teaching Experience

Spring 2006 - Spring 2008
Adjunct Faculty, Small Scale Metal Construction I and II, University of New Mexico, Albuquerque, New Mexico
Small Metal Construction I is an introduction to the basic skills of metalsmithing. Skills learned in this course include sawing, forming, surface treatment, and soldering techniques. Students work on sculpture and jewelry with an emphasis on developing soldering skills, construction techniques, and design.
Small Metal Construction II is a continuation of the above. In this class, students explore the idea of small metal construction as a way to communicate ideas of sculpture on a small scale. Students are encouraged to look at objects displayed both on (jewelry) and off the body. Students learn various techniques including forging, repoussé, sinking, reticulation, granulation, mokumé, enameling, and patinas.

Graduate Assistant to Constance DeJong for two-week casting course. Students in this high-intensive course learn wax and organic mold-making, spin, gravity, and vacuum casting, and design concepts for sculpture and jewelry.

Students learn basic three-dimensional design and sculpture techniques in this core foundations class. Projects include mold-making, carving and site-specific sculpture.

   
  Elementary Teaching Experience

Summer 2005
Lead Teacher, Kinder Arts, Nantucket School of Design and Art, Nantucket, Massachusetts
Multicultural arts program for five to seven year olds. Projects included paint, clay, collage, and sculpture.

Summer 2004
Arts Teacher: Art History, Monoprinting, Book Design, third–sixth grade, Albuquerque Academy, Albuquerque, New Mexico
In the art history camp students learned art making through looking back at art history and emulating techniques of famous artists, including working with site-specific sculptures and non- traditional materials such as sugar. In the monoprinting camp students learned to use a range of mark–making materials, including paint, pencil, and inks. Students also learned to use an etching press. Students in the book design class learned both ancient and modern techniques of bookbinding, including Japanese and pop-up books.

Summer 2001 & 2003
Environmental Education Teacher, Rio Adventures, Albuquerque Bio Park, Albuquerque, New Mexico
Designed and taught environmental education curriculum based on water eco-systems on the Rio
Grande. Students learned the history of the Rio Grande through art and story telling. Students also conducted experiments, did water testing, and collected organic samples.

2000 - 2002
Fifth and Sixth Grade Writing and Literature, Albuquerque Public Schools, Albuquerque, New Mexico
Designed and taught writing and literature curriculum. Writing program focused on expository writing. Literature program focused on contemporary young writers.

Hired, trained, supervised staff of 13. Directed and budgeted all facets of six-week
camp. Organized structure and content of six concurrent camps. Managed enrollment,
registration, invoices, and billing. Marketing, recruitment and promotion of summer
program. Taught Fine Art classes including beginning drawing, printing, art history,
environmental art, and service learning.

   
  Professional Experience

2004 & 2007 Cottonwood Gulch, Thoreau, New Mexico
Taught one-day intensive silversmithing workshop based on Southwest design.
Unusual aspect of this workshop was teaching without the use of electricity, since the camp
has no power source to their metalsmithing area.
